THE PROBLEM: The state of underprivileged women, having little or no education and no financial independence is dismal in both urban and rural areas. For them, there seems to be no respite from this cycle of poverty.
THE PROGRAM: Project Urja is a self-sustaining program in Vadodara where women are taught vocational skills like stitching, weaving, etc. and we work to provide a selling platform to empower them to become financially independent. The project follows a principle of 70-20-10 (70% – training from professionals, 20% – peer learning and 10% – community learning, awareness programs, mentorships)
THE IMPACT: Project Urja has impacted the lives of 10 women, who are now making hand-crafted jewelry, cloth bags, jute mobile bags, designer envelopes, etc. They have a support system in the form of their community and they are able to positively contribute to their families.
